Tercia, I also asked some friends to respond to your situation and will add their answers as I get them: here is the first:

Nelline,

Georgia fears nothing but me, but will try and escape from her yard or kennel (which I never use now) by chewing through chain link. If I have to leave her for extended periods, for both our sakes I crate her. That is not an ideal solution but for the two of us it works. Of course we go in the woods everyday where she gets to run like a maniac and she is out of her crate much of the time when we are home.

My solutions:

1. stay at home with the dog

2. If one is not possible then #3 or #4.

3. 10' x 4' 6' tight heavy gauge wire mesh kennel with concrete pad with metal roof tightly bolted down.

4. crate the animal indoors

5. There is a 5th solution but most have anthropomorphized their animal to the point that euthanasia is probably not acceptable.

6. I never leave a Stafford out in the yard while I am away from the house.
