Subject: Anyone seen Open Water?

My wife and I saw it this weekend. I thought it was pretty good. It reminded me a lot of the Blair Witch Project... a cheaply made film with an erie reality to it that plays well on the audience's fears.

While I did enjoy it, I thought a little tweeking would have REALLY given it a horrifying twist.

For those of you who haven't seen it, but are planning on seeing it, DON'T SCROLL DOWN ANY FURTHER. I'm going to pitch my idea and I don't want to spoil the ending for anyone...

Keep Scrolling...

Okay, in the actual film towards the end, the wife seperates herself from her dead husband whose body floats away and quickly becomes part of a shark feeding frenzy. The audience isn't really sure he's already dead until she pushes him away.

INSTEAD, I thought it would have been wild for him to not really be dead (only unconscious) when the sharks start attacking him. My idea is that the wife (knowing her husband's bleeding leg will keep attracting the sharks to both of them) pushes her husband away to selfishly save herself from sufferring the same fate. It would have been a wild visual to show tears running down her face as she hears the screams of her husband. Then, her demise (a few minutes later) could have happenned the exact same way it did in the film, as she's both hopeless and guilt-stricken.

Just an idea.

Having him scream
