I also loved the film and thought it was very well done and realistic.

Regarding your idea, I think that idea would have made perfect sense since it appeared that she was already selfish by putting her career ahead of her marriage and her leisure time. At the beginning of the film, she left her husband sitting in the driveway while she chatted away with her co-worker on the phone about work stuff. Her husband berated her in the water about their impulsive vacation and that she could never just commit and plan a proper vacation because she cared too much about her job. So your idea about her selfishness at the end of the film would have proved that point. Damn, I wish the writer had thought of that one.
