The words chosen by Shakespeare in this sonnet suggest the changing of seasons, fall to winter. The diction "yellow leaves, or none, or few do hang" and words describing the wind gives the reader an image of trees becoming lifeless as a windy storm blows its leaves to the ground. With this imagery, we can easily understand that winter is soon to come.

>As I explained before, the season of fall can be seen as the death of nature that had been born previously that year (i.e. trees, grass). Also, the time of day represents the cycle of life. In this sonnet, the words "sunset" to "twilight" describe the ending of a life. Similarly, the phrase "black night" is death. Time and season are very significant when Shakespeare is detailing the death of a loved one.
