Well for now I was going to use steel,with or without heim joints, and maybe figure out some way to incorporate a torque strap for the engine into the design! I could build an aluminum one though, I'll research it and see what I come up with! I'm always open to options and aluminum welding is my specialty! I just don't know if an aluminum stb would put up with the strain of an added torque strap and still be practical with the sturdiness of material used it might be as heavy as a steel one made out of smaller material and cost alot more! Aluminum is alot more expensive to buy than steel!

Well I was thinking just a nice sized piece of aluminum stock drilled and tapped at each end with heims and jam nuts. You could get away with making it so that you don't need to weld.

I guess the only reason I really want it is to get a nice polished finish. In all practicality steel is probably better than aluminum in the long run because it has a higher endurance limit (won't fatigue as easily), and both would probably be the same weight to provide the same given strength.

Oh and could you describe what the torque strap is that you are refering to?
