For example if you wanted to buy these get a 4' piece of say 3/8" steel rod and a 4' piece of 3/8" sch.40 pipe (tubing) and try bending them over your knee, the rod will flex easier than the tubing! It has something to do with the wall on the tubing acting against it's self to keep it from flexing and the rod being solid the grain structure of the metal will be inline and will bend and flex making it actually weaker than the tubing! Date Posted: 23:05:01 02/03/03 Mon I don't believe thats not to say you cannot use a solid core rod. Provided you are only placing an axial load on it, then I think it would work fine. I agree after thinking about it that tubing is probably the better way to go. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
