I don't believe thats not to say you cannot use a solid core rod. Provided you are only placing an axial load on it, then I think it would work fine.

I agree after thinking about it that tubing is probably the better way to go.

Even if it was just for the strut tower brace and no torque strap, I think that the solid rod would still flex more than the tubing and it would be a waste of money! Don't get me wrong a solid strut tower brace would be better than none at all but I don't think it would be worth it for the added weight and flex of the solid bar!
