Auron jumped slightly, startled. He didn't realize that Rikku was watching him. He wiped his eyes, but didn't answer.

-the next morning-

Yuna woke with a start and scrambled over to Aurie. "Are you feeling better?" she asked softly, seeing that he was awake.
"A little," he whispered. He bit his lip and held back tears as another wave of pain washed over him.
"There, there..." Yuna crooned. She took him from Auron's arms into her own and started rocking him like a baby.
Normally Aurie would have protested, but now it felt comforting and... right, somehow. So this is what it's like to have a mom... He fell asleep in her arms.
"Yunie?" Rikku asked, breaking the silence. "What are you doing up already?"
"Sh! He's still sleeping."
Rikku nodded and quietly began to get their breakfast ready.
Auron woke up. "Wh... where's Aurie?" he mumbled once he realized that he didn't have him in his arms anymore.
"Yunie has him," Rikku whispered.
"Oh," Auron said in a would-be-casual way. He walked over to the pair. "Aurie?"
Aurie stirred. He looked up to see who said his name. When he saw that it was Auron, he reached his arms up towards him.
Auron picked him up gingerly. He didn't need to ask how he was feeling; he already knew. He sighed. Auron didn't want Aurie to do what he was going to ask him to do, but he knew that Aurie must. If everything was to go as it was supposed to, he must.
"Are you ready?" he whispered.
