Yuna quickly revived Shep.
"What happened?"
Shep took a deep breath and spilled out the whole story. When he was done, everyone was in a state of shock. With Kiana, it was only the shock of such a strange story. But for everyone else, there was grief, too. It was a while before anyone broke the silence.
"Did you say... he said he was coming back?" Yuna asked hesitantly.
Shep nodded slowly. "Yeah... why?"
"Nothing, nothing..." Yuna said, but she was even worse at lying than Tidus was.
"You okay?" Rikku looked at Yuna with concern. She could tell how much Yuna loved Aurie.
"I'm fine," Yuna lied. She only hoped that no one would hear her crying that night.
It was strange for Auron. He was a little depressed because Aurie had to leave... but in a different way, he was almost glad. He had been worried about what was going to happen to Aurie... to him... but now Aurie was back where he should be.
But... he was coming back? How? And when? How old would Aurie be? Five or thirteen? Why would he come back after the catastrophe that had just happened?
Auron's worrying would never cease.
Kiana didn't feel very effected by any of it. All she had seen of Aurie was that he was a wheezing kid that looked like he was going to die. She sought out Rikku, even though she knew that this wasn't the greatest time to talk. She needed answers, and for some reason, it seemed like Rikku would be the person who would give them to her.
"Rikku?"
She turned around to see who had called her. "What?" Rikku said stiffly.
"Look, I'm sorry that I was so rude to you earlier. I just wanted to be alone."
"Yeah?" Rikku turned her back on Kiana. "So do I."
Kiana sighed. "Rikku, I just thought that you'd be able to give me some answers. My brother obviously doesn't know much more than I do, and Yuna seems a bit depressed right now... and that's putting it lightly."
Rikku softened a little. It wasn't like her to leave anyone in the dark. "Okay, fine," she said after a while. "I'll tell you what I'm saying now, but you need to swear to me that you're not going to tell anyone about this, okay?"
Kiana nodded. She knew how to keep a secret.
--
Kiana and Rikku snuck back to camp long after everyone had fallen asleep. Kiana felt like she should have been exhausted, but the prospect of having someone to actually talk to made her giddy. The last time she had actually talked to anyone around her age was with Shep before he ran away.
"You never did tell me your life story," Rikku whispered in the dark.
Kiana smiled grimly, though she knew that Rikku couldn't see her at all through the black night. "Could I tell you tomorrow?" she begged.
Rikku rolled her eyes. "Fine. Promise, though."
"I promise."
"G'night, then."
"Night."
