| Subject: I like Jordan Krinke, however what association does she have with the city of San Fraincisco? She is as far removed from San Francisco as anyone else living in Southern California. I'm not a huge fan of these OPEN Pageants. If they want to be open I think they should at least be representative of the area or close by. Lee meriweather was Miss San Francisco and guess what? Actually lived in San Francisco. | |

Date Posted: 16:19:01 03/11/14 Tue And in CA, there is a limit of two structured titles for any given contestant, i.e., she can only hold 2 structured titles for the entire length of her eligibility in the system, which can be 7 years for some girls. Open titleholders aren't expected to be representatives of the area of their title; they should certainly know something about the area if someone asks them, but they aren't "home town queens." For the most part, they are young women who are serious about competing and want to serve the entire state of CA, represent CA at Miss America, and possibly bring the crown back to CA. If an open ED does want an open titleholder to make appearances in the local area, or if the titleholder herself wants to do so, that certainly can happen. The one year I awarded the Miss Studio City title, the winner happened to live in Studio City and made several appearances. At the other end of the spectrum, there has never been a Miss Hollywood from Hollywood, mostly because in the pageant's 18-year history there has been exactly one contestant who lived in Hollywood. She came back to compete a 2nd time, and even she had moved out of Hollywood. For the record, Miss San Francisco was a structured pageant the year Lee Meriwether won. She had to be from San Francisco in order to compete there. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |

Date Posted: 22:33:15 03/11/14 Tue My son's good friend was a contestant, and apparently Steve, the San Francisco ED, declared from the title closed until the day before without notifying the contestants. It seems that they were all required to show some proof of residency when they signed up, and all were convinced that they were vying for a closed title. They were not informed that the titles would be open until the last day, which I think is very strange and unfair to all the girls. Program directors need to be transparent, and when I think of Miss San Francisco, I want to think of someone who is at least familiar with the city. [ Post a Reply to This Message ] |
