I thought that A Raisin in the Sun was an “ok” book. I was a little bit disappointed with the ending, only because I wanted to know exactly whether or not Beneatha would become a doctor and if Walter would recover from the loss of money. I also really wanted to find out how the baby was doing. Besides these few things, I was generally pleased with the book’s ending.
Most of my predictions never happened. My main prediction was that Walter would own the liquor store, which did not occur. I like how the whole family has an entirely new beginning ahead of them at their new home. They will be going through the challenges that will present themselves in their new neighborhood TOGETHER. After I finished this book, I was left with the message that I should hold on to my dreams and not give up. I also realized how important family just really is.
I do not think that I would recommend this play to friends because of the language, which was sometimes hard to understand because of the accent the Younger’s had, and the book didn’t really hold my interest. Overall, A Raisin in the Sun was a great book to read as an inside school book, but it would not make an interesting pleasure book to read for fun. There were many positive themes that could have taught the reader a lot.
