When you look at this post remember that it was posted 10 years ago and Speke was in a terrible state. A lot has happened during that time period and Speke is really starting to shine again. There are lots of new homes built and a whole new shopping centre complete with a modern library. Some of the old pubs have been demolished and some of the old schools have been replaced by modern new schools.

The thing that I am surprised about is that Speke does not yet have a cinema in place. But I am also amazed how Speke seems to be taking a pride in the area once again and that is lovely to see. I live in Canada and travel backwards and forwards across the pond so I notice any of the changes that are made during my absence and it's always nice to see these changes. I would like to see the Crescent shops put back to their former glory and a varied selection of shops located there. This is something for the Council to decide when setting the zoning on these lands. My memories of the Crescent shops were ones of it being a very busy shopping centre and when I look at it now it's a crying shame to see it looking like that. Anyone who lived in Speke during the 50's 60's and early 70's will know what I mean. In any event it's lovely to see it on it's feet again.
