Maybe something simple....

like I can see a flash back to her past with her watcher maybe she was obsessed with the poem "The Raven", I think it was written in the late 1800's...not too sure though....or maybe her watcher said she was "swave, and quick, like a raven" and thats how her new name came to be.

Maybe her old name could be something simple, like Marie...or just something that is very simple.

I'm going to be covering all of Raven's backstory in my episode (#6) - her name, her origin, her Watcher, and how she was vamped. There will be plenty of ritual and romance for you later writers to play with.

We need to settle on a backstory for her...have you already written it, crumpet? If you have, give us the main details, so's that us later writers can pick things up and whatnot...

Oh, and is it going to be flashback stylee?

Yup! There will be two parallel stories, like in Fool for Love and LMPTM.

I don't want to give a lot of details, cause so much of that is going to come out in my episode... here's some stuff to get you started.

- Raven was a Slayer from Spain in the early 16th century. Her name was Isabella.
- She had a Watcher named Benito
- Things went bad for her because of a secret Catholic society that was tied in with the Inquisition

That's all I'm going to say for now. I didn't mean "romance" like soap-opera shippiness, but like high adventure and drama. Plenty of that!

In my episode, I'll show how she was vamped, and there will be enough ritual and stuff involved in that scene to give further writers plenty to build on, as far as her purpose, her destiny, prophecies or whatever you all want to do. Needless to say, she's not gonna get bitten by Joe Random Vampire in an alley somewhere :-)

Isabella of Spain. Ha! That sounds like a well thought out backstory, I'm looking forward to it!

It would also be great if Raven suffered because she was the slayer, which I think is the direction you seem to have taken her backstory. My original idea was a slayer who was scarred for life and left with terrifying nightmares after that test Buffy went through in "Helpless" (the one where her powers are taken and she's locked in that creepy house with that horrible vampire who was played by the guy who played Rack.) She refused to speak to the council ever again and ended up becoming close to a vampire who convinced her to let him sire her as she lay dying after a battle.

Yeah I know, quit plugging your ideas Linda. Anyway, the point is that it was the council that made her suffer (in her eyes) and so she slaughtered as many of them as she could get her hands on when she was sired. I think that hatred of being the slayer, and the belief that it only ever leads to pain, would add an extra edge to Raven's battle with Buffy. After all, here is a slayer who has suffered in so many ways and who actually managed to abandon the council and then make them be her tool, and who above all has managed to create a happy life for herself. The more Raven realises that the more she'll hate her, and the more of a failure she'll feel. Sort of like the Faith story, only with fangs.

Okay I think I've wandered several miles off the point, so I'll leave it there. But yes! Loving the hints so far!

My episode is supposed to be a "Buffy & Giles"-centric episode, so the Slayer/Watcher dynamic is going to be very important.

What are tenderhooks anyway? Is there any word on that?

Although the phrase you're thinking of is being on tenterhooks.

They were used to hook wet cloth onto a frame, called a tenter.

Crumpet Lets get together and do this cause I have some of her back story in my episode 2 that way it doesn't totaly screw me over with it and also has another persons oppion

I assume by childe you mean a vampire she sired....

My episode only covers her last couple of days as a Slayer (backstory) and some current plot in Sunnydale; I'm not doing anything with her vampire past, so you can elaborate on that all you like.
