Subject: I had an idea about the finale

Why not, instead of one person getting to write it, we ALL right it.

We go a completely random order selection and everyone gets to write say three hundred words. That way everyone is involved. And we get a really interesting concept because everyone will have ideas that they want to include, but the ideas of the people before you will have to be included as well.

Any thoughts on this?

[> Well, it could go one of two ways. -- Kashmanik, 13:35:17 03/15/03 Sat

It would either work really well, or it would be a complete and utter disaster. It depends on how quickly people get their episodes written - if we get well ahead of schedule, we could certainly try it out, since we'll have time on our side. But, if the schedule remains as is, then someone will just have to be assigned the episode - I'm thinking up methods of determining who right now.

[> I still like the idea of the best two co-writing the finale -- Linda_Delurked, 18:36:54 03/16/03 Sun

It gets everyone at the C&S involved for a start, which means they will want to keep track of the fic. It also means that the two who wrote the best episodes will handle the finale, so we know that it's going to be good! I mean, just look at the high standard set by Neil and Inner Moppet, and we're only at episode two.

Much as I love the idea of us all clubbing together for the last one, it could end up being really disjointed and clumsy. I'd prefer to have whichever clever clogs write the most popular episodes handle the finale. It also means that there's more of a mystery for the rest of us, as we won't know what's going to happen until they write it.

[> [> Totally agree -- Mark, 19:30:26 03/16/03 Sun

I just think it's too impractical and time consuming to have everyone write the finale. But still the only problem I have is who decides what the best two episodes are? The people at Cross and Stake? Because so far all the comments have been wonderful, and of course they have been much deserved. But I mean I doubt anyone would be rude enough to say, "I didn't like this at all!" so its not like we can go by the feedback we get from Cross and Stake. And I also don't think anyone is going to write a terrible episode, so I think it will be hard to decide. We should take other factors in mind in addition, like who contributed the most to shaping the arc of the season? Who came up with what ideas? Who had really constructive opinions? etc. It could be more of a whole contribution thing, as well as a great episode writer.

[> Exactly with you Mark -- Faithsguy, 22:03:01 03/16/03 Sun

I think there are some writers who have been posting here from the beginning that should be in the head of the line, also I think Kashy should be in the running for the finale as well.

[> I think we all should vote for two writers -- Neil, 23:03:04 03/16/03 Sun

then the two with the most votes write the finale.

But you cannot vote for yourself.

How does that sound?

[> [> Yeah -- Mark, 00:02:53 03/17/03 Mon

That's what I was thinking, except I guess the finale will be a little later than the other episodes. Cause if you think about it, it's only fair that we wait until every episode up to that is done, so we won't be able to vote until after episode 21 is posted. Then, we'll need a few days to give time for everyone vote since not everyone can come on every day. After at least five days of voting time, then the two people voted on can start writing, and there should probably be more writing time than usual since the finale is so huge.

But I guess it will be worth it in the end! And that could just make the hype for it so much better.

[> I think we and the C&S folks should vote... -- Inner Moppet, 06:01:20 03/17/03 Mon

I don't know about anyone else, but I have always wished to have some say in the shows I like, namely BTVS. Look at my ep! I did stuff I've never seen on the show, because I wanted to see it and I could, thanks to Kash's brilliant idea. I think it would be so cool if we, as fans, and the other C&Sers, had the opportunity to really participate in how this season we're writing ends. The ones who weren't writing would get to feel more involved, and after all, aren't we kind of doing this for them? I say let's let any and all vote for the finale writers!

[> [> Re: -- Mark, 06:25:30 03/17/03 Mon

The only problem I have with letting the C&S's vote is that it might become a popularity contest. It's just human nature, you know? "Well Person A has been posting here for so long, and I really like them, so might as well vote for them!"

Also I feel like people are going to really only take into consideration newer episodes since they are more fresh in their minds. People who write really earlier episodes might be at a disadvantage. I mean, if the finale happens around June, and you were voting, would you be able to remember there was a great episode 2 in Mid March? It was months ago!

Also, the readers have no idea the great ideas and contributions people put in on this board, here, where only we get to see. I think that should be taken into account as well. So for those reasons I do not think the C&S'ers should have a say. I think it should just be us writers voting.

There are ways to prevent what I said from happening, such as posting the episodes annonymously and waiting until the season is over to reveal who wrote who, and reposting earlier episodes to get people reaquainted with them, but I doubt people will want that, so I think it's easier and more fair to just leave it up to us.

[> Here's what I planned.... opinions please. -- Kashmanik, 00:47:41 03/18/03 Tue

Currently, I have the S8 Episode Log set up so that people can't reply to a post. BUT, once Ep 21 has aired, I intend to change the settings and announce on the C&S that voting is now open, and ask everyone to go there and choose their favourite episode.

I'll make the voting anonymous, and just ensure that people don't post from the same IP (or whatever that little number code is) more than once.

This way, the voting will be totally fair, and people will be less tempted to vote for their friends episodes.

Nearer the time that the Season is completed, I may even ask AnGeL X to add a link at the top of the C&S board to the S8 Ep Log board, to encourage voting, as well as our exisiting advertising in the Promos, DSN, and Specialist Thread.

So, anyone like/dislike that idea? I just think it's a nice way of involving anyone who's interested in the process.

I'm also considering the alternative of only accepting votes by email to me, so that people don't worry about their vote being criticised.

Feedback, lil' minions? :-)

[> [> Great idea! -- Mark, 02:03:47 03/18/03 Tue

Yeah that sounds fine to me! I was actually also thinking about maybe suggesting people email to avoid any hurt feelings, so you might want to give that some thought as well. But I love the idea of directing people to the board and really promoting it so that every episode will be there and accessable.

I think this would probably work the best. I just really want as many people who are interested in this to have the chance to participate. Good thinkin', Kash!

[> [> I obey Master Kash in all things! Plus I like this idea :) -- Linda_Delurked, 18:08:31 03/18/03 Tue

I think that one will work the best. Let the people who write the two most popular episodes co write the finale.

I also think we should publish the fic board address when voting starts - not this one, the one that has all the stories on it. This is going to last ages and the later fics will be the ones freshest in people's minds. We'll need to make sure that we remind people of earlier episodes so that everyone has a fair chance, particularly as the two episodes published so far have been truly excellent!
