I think there must be many things that left to burn will show us wisdom we didn't know we had. Allowing the burn not as a hypermasculine effort to suffer in order to be some kind of hero, but allowing it as a fall into a kind of grace with openness to whatever it may bring.

I think of the times I resisted manfully the urge to overeat, the urge to sleep in, the desire for ...well you know. And I know this didn't work. It only made that which I resisted ever stronger until finally I could resist no longer. No this is not what I mean when I talk about allowing the burn.

So how is this maneuver ever made? And is there ever a resolution that occurs? Or does the burn never end but just go away for awhile only to return?
