Hi silverfox,

A. How do you think He might have meant it metaphorically? It seems quite literal to me. There are times when Christ does speak metaphrically to be sure, but the general rule is if something can be taken at face value, take it that way. If it is obviousely symbolic (such as Jesus saying He is "The bread", etc.) then take it that way and look for another meaning.

B. The onus is on you to prove that the text is mistranslated in some way. The Bible has more manuscript evidence in it's favour than for any other ancient document. Nothing even comes close to it in fact.

C. This appears to be similar to B.

D. If Jesus was not the only way to the Father, then this verse (John 14.6) would not be there.

Have you considered this possibility as it is the one that is not on your list: That where Jesus is recorded as saying "I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except by me" (John 14.6) is an accurate preservation of Jesus' words and that we should simply take them at face value?

These days, many people come to the Bible with their own views and then attempt to rule out (in some way) the things that it contains when it doesn't fit with the beliefs they already hold. However, the correct way is to come to the Bible and allow 'it' to shape 'our' thinking.

Otherwise, anyone can come along with any view or theory and decide what they like and don't like in it and throw it out. If everyone in the world who thought this way was to be listened to and have their way there would be no Bible left.

This is one of the reasons why we have the Mormons saying that things are missing from the Bible. In other words, because many of their beliefs, which they have decided to already hold, are not to be found in the Bible it is easier for them to say: "Well, the Bible must have been tampered with, as it doesn't support what we believe". The same can be said for the New Age movement. They feel that the doctrine of reincarnation was originally in the Bible but was removed. There is no evidence for any of these things.
