In San Franciso they're trying out a ranked choice or instant run-off voting system. This is the type of local reform that I'd like to see in more cities. Although there are some draw back to a voting system like this, I believe that the advantages (possibly greater participation from outside the two main parties, less possiblity of negative campaigns) are refreshing. With a few minor modifications this could be a really good way to vote. Here's a link to the NPR audio:
