There's already many, many good essays written on such questions. Should a newbie ever turn up asking "What's this 'fanfiction' thing all about, then?", and for whatever reason we wish to give them a link instead of just tell them in the thread, there still isn't a pressing need to create one of our own.

If it's a more detailed question - say, a newbie comes in and asks 'What is canon in Tolkien's universe, and do all those History of Middle-earth books count or not?', then it's a more debatable issue, and one which perfectly warrants a thread of its own to discuss that in. We wouldn't be able to reach a GAFF 'resolution' on such a thing when there are people out there who will simply disagree. (I'm thinking of an actual discussion on the old board about what counts as Tolkien canon.)

>I don't go to GAFF just to say "Badfic sucks!" I also
>go to GAFF to see how to make goodfic, or how to help
>the badfic author turn into a goodfic author.

Well, we all do to an extent - but the majority of posts and discussions on GAFF are about, well, Godawful Fanfiction, as the name implies. 'Resolution' is pretty nonsensical when applied to such things.

>Those are the resolutions I care about.

There can't really be a 'resolution' for complex topics such as that, either. A badfic writer asking 'How do I improve my fic?' could be helped by giving them a link to a previous discussion on the topic, but they'll be helped a lot more by people looking at that particular fic and commenting on what needs to be changed.
