Subject: What went wrong?

I don't agree with the arguments that we lost because we were tired. Why would we be any different to any other club, especially as we're not in Europe, not in the League Cup and don't have any more internationals than pretty much any other club, nor ones that really have to travel so much more than others.

I also don't buy the argument that we just are clearly lacking in quality or a good striker. We've been incredible all year and this is the first match I really didn't see that we really should have won. Even after we scored we didn't exactly press the advantage home. And while Raul missed a sitter, we scored straight after, so I tend to not see it as having impacted the overall performance. And Raul has been excellent all year and not, as someone below suggests, lacking in legs; he's outpaced plenty this year, including yesterday and if anything is showing more pace than last year.

What went wrong, I think, is that O'Neil has the measure of Marco. Last year, in the away fixture, they adjusted at half-time to target our biggest weakness then - against the high press - came out second half and thoroughly beat us. Yesterday, was different. We're doing more high pressing and keeping more possession, and playing so many midfielders, knc. Lemina at the back, meant we were less effective at both of those things. And then I think he cleverly exploited Andersen's lack of pace and the gap with Tete playing essentially as a midfielder. And on the other side I think they understood well how to simply box out Nelson given he's currently only showing he wants to do one thing, and that's dribble, dribble, dribble, including into walls or out of play. Together, I think, O'Neil's set the blueprint for playing us in a way others have get to. A good team, well managed.
