For as long as I can remember fans of all football clubs have a player that they like to abuse. We have had more than our fair share over the years and the current target is Bobby Zamora.

It used to be abuse from the terraces and arguments in the pub after the game but since the advent of the internet and message boards there is an increasing number of people who like to criticise and abuse from the comfort of their armchair.

Criticism is fair and can be constructive but constant repetition of the same old thing is not. Abuse is rarely constructive.

Now I do not think it is right for a professional player to react to mindless ramblings of the few who will always look for someone or something to abuse but we do not know if this outburst was aimed at an individual or a general rant at all of those who abuse in this cowardly fashion or if it was just an outburst at his own frustration at not scoring as many as he could. Maybe even Uncle Roy wound him up before the game and it was aimed at him? Whatever, its wrong of him to react that way but then it is mind-numbingly boring to keep seeing the same old crap on here and other boards aimed at a player who contributed greatly to our best ever season and is contributing even more to this season.

Like anyone who wears the shirt, he will get my full support as long as he does so, will get fair criticism when deserved and praise when deserved too.

- Agreed but we wont move on, unfortunately. It seems that Bobby is very emotional and probably lacks a little self esteem. Most people who react badly to critisism lack self esteem in my expereince. So he has brittle confidence, has has mixed performances and gets stick from a minority of his own fans. As a result he overreacts sometimes. I am not that bothered, but soem are. The people who have irked him so greatly are not all hurling their abuse from the Hammersmith End of Craven Cottage, in between mouthfuls of hamburger. They are seated behind keyboards in the comfort of their bedrooms and they are posting their criticisms to the fan forum section of the club's official website.

The forum is sometimes browsed by the players in their lounge after matches. It is a source of predictable banter. Yet some of Roy Hodgson's squad, Zamora chief among them, have wondered why their club has offered such a medium for them to be abused. Zamora has taken flak for his poor record in front of goal.

- It's only natural for players especially if they've done really well (or not) to wonder what people really think of them. I agree they shouldn't read MBs but if someone like Bobby plays well and then comes on and sees the vitriol he gets sometimes I can understand why he'd get a skewed idea that it's more than it is think that way. - If he really is reading MBs, then he must be seeing the positive comments as well as the negative, just as he must be aware of the majority supporting him at games so, for me, it still doesn't explain/justify his reactions. In any profession you have to be prepared for criticism. People paying to watch a footballer is not dissimilar to paying to see an actor or a musician, for example, all of whom have to be prepared for their customers to be dissatisfied. OK, they may not receive such vocal or 'colourful' abuse as footballers do, but then patrons of those pursuits aren't likely to be as passionate and demanding as football fans are. Fans want their team and their players to do well, and much 'abuse' is simply them venting their frustration when things aren't going well. Footballers know this, and should realise that without that passion and commitment from fans, football wouldn't be such a lucrative profession. I've decided, controversially or not, but I want Zamora to leave in Jan. Now before you all dive in and tell me to stop being to sensitive let me explain.

I love Fulham and always have, Fulham are special and different from any other club in the world. We don't go fighting, we don't expect to win the league and we are the club everyone wishes their club was.

Zamora does not feel this. He has scored 10 goals for Fulham and not once has he looked happy about it or even celebrated it with the fans, compare that to when he scored for West Ham.... just take a look. Fact is he has no desire to be a Fulham player. He doesn't care for the badge and that does bother me.... maybe it shouldn't but it does.

I love JP, granted he is not the best footballer in the world and he is certainly not in anyones greatest Fulham team but you know that he would put himself in harms way for Fulham. He has a geniuwine love and apriication for the club and the fans, call me old fashion but I like that.

Does Zamora reaction have a effect on his team mates? I know that if I was pushed away whilst trying to congraulate him as a fellow professional I wouldn't be to pleased.

Zamora would need replacing no doubt about that but I really would rather see him gone so firstly we can start talking about all things positive and secondly he can be where he wants to be.... elsewhere.

- I've read many times about how "lazy" he is and how his attitude stinks, but I see him clap the fans before games when they sing for him, work his arse off for 90 minutes every game even when it isn't going his way and being a total team player, I think the other players like playing with him as he works very hard and is happy to forego personal glory to set up his team mates if they are in better goalscoring positions. I would have loved him to have scored more goals but apart from that for what we paid for him and given the other options available I wouldn't swap him for anything. - I'd much prefer him to air his misconceptions openly & move on from there. I want more b-z...he was a part of the most succesful fulham team ever....for those who went to fulham in the 1980's, and even worse 1990's, when buckets were there collecting ur spare change for fulham 2000...we would have given our right arms to be in the position we are today, premiership football, roma in the eufa cup, fa cup semi finals....and b-z is a part of that for a misley 4million, he is part of the team , ok he dont score many, but how many does he set up....

Fulham defender Aaron Hughes has marked the likes of Emile Heskey after more than a decade in the Premier League - and he believes team-mate Bobby Zamora is as tough as any striker in England.

Zamora is comparable to Heskey as neither have particularly good goalscoring records but both offer a huge physical presence to lead the line.

Hughes added: "I train against him every day, he's a big, strong guy and you know if you're going in for a 50-50 the chances are he'll get the better of you because of his physical presence.

"Sometimes you have to be clever against players like that. It's good for us in training because we get used to playing against someone like that. He's be up there with guys like Emile Heskey with his physical presence."

Whilst hating to continue this boring and pointless subject, i was texting score updates to my son on Sunday, he was away for the weekend, and he was somewhat surprised to hear that Fulham had gone one up in the 7th minute courtesy of a goal by "wannsa", such is the danger of predictive text. As I dragged myself from a warm bed this morning, still groggy after a long journey back from the latest away shambles, I heard the BBC newsreader say that the Government were worried about an increase in depression and anxiety.

One way to prevent this malaise among the red and white army, I snorted, would be to teach defenders to attack the ball when it is punted into the penalty box.

It was that basic error that led to the only goal of the game at Craven Cottage. Pantsil’s high ball was left by Bardsley, Turner and Fulop, allowing Zamora to head it into the net. Even Mike Dean looked surprised that Premier League defenders had given away such a sloppy and careless goal. Not as surprised or as shocked as we were, Mike!!

If you thought that Wigan was bad and decided not to make the trip to west London, you made a wise choice. The first half was as bad as anything produced last season and has sent alarm bells ringing as we look at a run of games where we have taken four points out of the last 18.

That is relegation form and as Portsmouth and Wolves pick up points and Fulham and Birmingham move above us, the optimism of late summer and early autumn is disappearing as quickly as steelworkers jobs’ on Teesside. Anxiety beckons.

Fulham are a decent side, well drilled and well organised. They do their homework and knew that if Reid was stopped, Sunderland’s creative juices ceased to flow. How right they were. Double cover on the Irishmen meant that we created precisely nothing from midfield until Zenden appeared late in the game. He did force a save out of the impressive Mark Schwarzer, which was more than Henderson, Cana, Malbranque and Reid managed. So far, our midfielders have contributed three league goals this season. Depressing.

The defending was poor throughout. Ferdinand was awful, Nosworthy no better when he came on. His first act was to grab the shirt of a passing Fulham player, nearly giving away a penalty before he had broken sweat. Turner was indecisive, Bardsley did OK, but is not a Premier League full back and Richardson was identified as the weak link and the ball was persistently played over his head. Stressful to watch.

The Brucester is still a long way from sorting out his back four, but he needs to make decisions and make them quickly and well. I get the feeling that he sees Mensah as a long term project, if he can get him fit. Ferdinand should be allowed to leave in January and I don’t imagine that McCartney is especially keen on staying much longer. On this performance, Nyron should stick to fashion shows. Brave yes, composed no. Worrying.

Not much better up front, but if the service is so poor, what can they do.? We have a centre forward in Jones who can, if given the right ball, open up defences. Two years ago, he made Hangeland look like a Norwegian novice as he took him apart. Yesterday, the Scandinavians mastered the Trinidadian, while our England hopeful looked for scraps elsewhere. Fulham is an enjoyable ground to visit, with a plethora of decent pubs, good transport links and the redolence of times past. A jolly hour on the Tube was followed up by some good craic in the White Horse at Parsons Green, where all the beers appeared to be strong enough to put you to sleep. Maybe Turner, Bardsley and Fulop had been partaking of the Robinson’s Old Tom pre match. Hopeless.

Portsmouth up next and this suddenly takes on a whole new meaning: lose this one and we are looking at the beginnings of a relegation scrap. That’s not what were promised back in August. Time for action, Steve and Eric; Give us something to look forward to, please or my therapist may

I know i am going to get slaughtered for this, but going to say it anyway. You cannot boo a player, cheer loudly when he is taken off, shout obscenities at him for 90 minutes and then expect him to walk past you at the end of the game and clap back at you!! Now I think Bobby is wrong to shout F****** Shut Up back at the fans, but you cant expect him to smile and wave at you after "some" of our fans behaviour towards him. I'm an American, and last summer my local team The Austin Aztex (USL Div 1) played an exhibition match against defending MLS champions Columbus Crew. It was played in a biggish high school (american) football stadium, with big concrete bleachers on each side. There were about 3,000-4,000 people in our stand, so there was a fair amount of chatter, but not too much shouting or chanting.

I was sitting about half way up, and I picked out Columbus right back (as you do). All game I shouted stuff at him as loud as I could. Nothing foul(there were kids around)but stuff like, your mother is ashamed of you! after a misplaced pass, and you aren't good enough for your shoes! (he was wearing blue ones) and other nonsense that I thought was hilarious at the time. I should point out here that I was very very drunk.

Anyway, I was sitting in that no man's land where I wasn't totally sure if he heard me or not. He never looked over or anything. SO after the game, all the players were along the fence chatting to fans and each other, a few were signing autographs. I sidle up to the fence and see this guy about ten feet away. I shout out, Hey Buddy! He turns, and there I am face to face with the guy I've been heckling all night. So I screw up my courage and say to him...

"How do you like it in Austin?"
"It's great." He says.

I walk away.

Considerly how upset he got upon nodding home what turned out to be Fulham's winner against Sunderland yesterday, it's probably good for Bobby Zamora's stress levels that he doesn't score very often. After putting away what for most strikers would be considered a fairly routine chance, the chippy Fulham striker aggressively pushed away his delighted team-mates, pointed at a vocal section of the home support who consider one goal every seven games to be a less than satisfactory return from their £5m striker and angrily told them to "shut your effin mouths".

The insinuation was clear: by finally doing a goal and adhering to that old adage about even blind hens eventually pecking the odd bit of corn, Bobby had shoved the criticism of those who pay their hard-earned money to sit in the cold shaking their heads in disbelief at his latest missed sitter back in their faces. And to think some people say footballers are self-absorbed and divorced from reality, eh?

To be fair to Bobby, he does ship a lot of abuse from a vocal minority in Craven Cottage's Hammersmith End who fail to appreciate the grunt work he puts in, running about a lot, holding up the ball as team-mates come into play, then passing it to the opposition. To be fair to the vocal minority in Craven Cottage's Hammersmith End, he does deserve most of it. But credit where it's due, he did very well yesterday and by the end of the game, the ground was echoing to the sound of his name in a different way to usual.

After the match, his manager Roy Hodgson, a man not usually given to deranged hyperbole, pointed out that Zamora is a vital cog in a well-oiled machine and most Fulham fans appreciate his efforts. He then stretched the bounds of credibility by suggesting that Fabio Capello could do worse than select him as a wild card for England. "You could make a case for one or two more unusual selections, players who have something a bit extra," he said. "If you perpetuated that argument, you might come up with an argument for someone like a Bobby Zamora. He is the type of player who we don't have too many like in the English Premiership." Indeed we don't, a fact which would probably go some way towards explaining why the aforementioned league is considered the best in the world.

Have to say that although I'm not massively bothered by Bobby throwing a strop after scoring (he is scoring after all) I am beginning to get a bit pissed off with his apparent disrespect for us supporters.

I've been a big fan of Bobby's since he signed for us and have always been able to appreciate what he brings to the team. I've been able to forgive his lack of clinical finishing because I never thought he'd been bought to the club as an out-and-out goalscorer in the first place and I honestly don't believe that there are many better than him in the Premiership when it comes to holding the ball up and unsettling defenders. As has been said on here countless times before, if he had 20 goals a season in him, on top of his other qualities, then he'd be Didier Drogba (minus the diving, fake near-death experiences on the pitch, etc) and he wouldn't be at a club like ours.

The problem clearly though is that thousands of us are chanting his name match after match but he's choosing to ignore that and concentrate on the minority who are booing him and having a go (something that every professional player has probably had to deal with at some point). Having said that, a perfect example of why he understandably is getting wound up happened in the dying seconds of the game on Saturday in the section where I sit in the Hammersmith End. After Bobby had just put in a man-of-the-match performance, running himself into the ground and scoring our winner in the process, he went to take a short corner with Duff (I think) and basically ballsed it up a bit. With that, someone behind me started screaming, "Oh bloody hell Bobby, why are you so shit?". Her excuse was that he's been rubbish in the past and so despite a brilliant performance still deserved to be jeered and labelled "shit". Unfortunately that sums up some of our support and I think goes some way to explaining why Zamora isn't the happiest of centre forwards. It's just a shame he spends his time concerning himself with the slag-off merchants and aiming his vitriol at them everytime he scores, but doesn't seem at all capable of accepting, or revelling in, the support he does receive from the majority of Fulham fans. Come on Bobby, let the love in. Accept FFC into your soul.

So 24 hours on from what bobby did after his goal yesterday i have been thinkin what to make of this story

When i saw on tv what he did i have to say i called him very name i could think of at the time, and with 5,6 pints in me i can say some even shocked my pals in the pub. To see how he pushed duff away telling him to "GET OFF ME" and to then tell the fans to shut the F**k up has seal the deal with my view of him on my eyes. He wants me to shut the F**K up then hes got it, I wont chant his name, cheer his goals or clap him if he is ever sub or be taken off. I cant and wont Booo a player that has a Fulham shirt on, i never have and never but i wont make a noise when it comes him.

how can any kid under the age of 13 that saw a player from the club he supports feel being told to Shut The F**k up Really blows my mind.

Jan is round the corner and i hope bobby goes, i dont think ive hated a fulham player in my life but god this man is pushin my buttons.

Pound for pound , who has given Fulham Football Club better value for money on their return ,
either the £4 million pound Bobby Zamora or the £10 million pound Andrew Johnson ?
I only ask because you never ever see any criticism levelled at the vastly over priced Johnson , and yet if both players were put up for sale in January the Club would get its money back and more on Zamora and yet lose a fortune on Johnson !
It gets forgotten sometimes that Zamora has had to soldier on without a constant partner which cant be easy , I personally think that the time to judge Bobby is when Johnson has played 20 consequtive games alongside him !
But for me Zamora has proved far better value , what say you ?
£6 million for Zamora and Paintsil = Bargain !!!

I notice we are bottom of the table in terms of fouls, red cards and cautions, therefore top AGAIN of the fair play league.

To get that much out of the players AND getting them playing with a minimum of foul play is testament to the organisation skills and knowledge of the game from Roy. This surely adds extra respect and affection neutrals have for us.

Still doesn't make the Nevland challenge on Saturday a clumsy, forwards tackle though!
