Subject: The role of manager as we know it didn't really predate the 1960s. Prior to that the Board ran the club delegating admin to a general manager/secretary with a trainer looking after the players fitness. No coaching , the team picked by the Board who decided who was to be bought or sold. Vic Buckingham was probably our first manager. Jezzard may have thought he was but the Mullery sale told him who ran the show and he effectively walked out.
In reply to: eganonoa 's message, "Once he hits Jul 2025 he will have passed Coleman with four complete years. There are a bunch in-and-around this. But I believe the last manager who STARTED a 5th consecutive season (though didn't finish) was Alec Stock. The only post-war manager to have completed 5 consecutive seasons was Jezzard I believe (5.5). In fact, given the war sat in the middle of Jack Peart's time, there's an argument that in our entire history only Phil Kelso has completed more than five consecutive seasons in charge" on Thursday, December 19, 07:41:53am
