• I think he is a certain type of player for a certain type of of fixture. • I don't know how we've gone from a couple poor performances to assuming he's a failure. Per fbref here are some select percentile ranks compared to attacking mids in the top-5 leagues: Pass Attempts 48.51 per 90, 87th %ile; Pass Completion, 90.5%, 99th %ile; Tackles, 1.62 per 90, 82nd %ile; Interceptions, 0.61 per 90, 80th %ile. His 5 goal contributions (3 goals, 2 assists) puts him 4th, behind Raul, Iwobi and Robinson, on the team. This from a player we can all agree isn't yet at his best!   • Thanks for posting. I looked at those the other day. He is very good/elite in some respects. The big negative for me given his position was the low percentile for progressive passes received. I think this speaks to fitness and/or effort. He doesn't get forward quickly enough in transition and doesn't put the effort in to find space.     • Agree. Part, I think, is just his role. He drops deep for the ball and helps carry and pass the ball out. But fitness is definitely the other part and his big current negative. I also worry about confidence. For instance, his pass completion is so high because he almost never tries to pass it long (lowest in the team). In some ways that's good. We need control and anyway have Andreas trying long. But it deprives him a weapon and makes him a bit predictable.   • All stemmed from his first ankle break when I think he was only 21, said how he was never the same, did well to achieve what he did, nearly 40 England caps, but would have been a top top player otherwise and eddy for the type we don’t produce a lot of, class ball recyclers, but he could also dribble and stick his foot in as well.
