Subject: To continue - There have been occasions - Newcastle, Brighton - where we could have conceded an equaliser but instead scored a third. Yesterday was similar but it didn't fall for us. At Chelsea we could just as easily have lost that game 2-1 as won it - we were gambling. And I'm all for it! Maybe with Silva you just take the (significant) ups with the downs, hope for a bit of luck (I think we've been a bit unlucky overall) and enjoy the ride
In reply to: JamieR 's message, "Re: goalscorers I have often felt similar but then the stats are actually ok - 9 goals in 19 games from Jimenez/Muniz, 5 each from Iwobi and Wilson make for healthy contributions from midfield. Others chip in. Double all that over a full season and it's decent. Perhaps it's more just the case the high intensity style means players are knackered and games tend to become very open at the end, leading to goals for one team or the other." on Monday, December 30, 10:44:38am

  • Makes sense. Supporters everywhere lament missed chances and if we watched their teams we'd see them doing so. But the 'xg' section of footystats.org records an average of 1.47 goals scored versus 1.48 expected. Second only to Brighton (1.50 v 1.50) we are the most level in those stakes. So not serious under-scorers like Everton, Palace and both (!) Manchesters. (Bigggest overperformers are Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, but also Brentford and Wolves, so a mixed message there.)
