• A few things stand out to me: (1) Our goals from central mid, wide forwards and centre forwards aren't wildly off Brighton's and our centre forwards, wide forwards and central midfielders (thanks to ESR) have already equaled last season's numbers with two game left; (2) we've had a massive drop-off from always being one of the top sides in terms of goals from multiple players; and (3) the defenders drop off is stark.   • I think our problem clearly lack of goals from defenders. Tactically we are well set up but where we fall down is set pieces . We never look like scoring g from corners and they are too predictable. Same for free kicks. Set piece coach ?     • Inside is an article from Opta rankinh us dead-last in set-piece goals. Set-pieces are definitely one problem and have been all season (v. bad this hasn't been addressed). But its not just that. We rank towards the top of the league in chance creation (key passes, shot creating actions), but much lower in expected goals. We're not creating enough good chances. Its a tactical problem beyond just set-pieces. But not personnel.       • I believe at times we overplay, do not get the ball forward quickly enough. Trying to create the perfect goal , take more risks, take more shots. That's down to the players on the pitch apart from this we are going to have a good season but it could have been so much more. • I think Alboy has a significant point - the goals analysis doesn't dig quite deep enough. Goalscoring improvement areas for me are quicker progress in the final third, accurate crossing (less looping crosses and more accurate), better set piece preparation / performance.   • I agree completely. As I say, I think the issue is more tactical and coaching than personnel. Right now I'm of the belief that a new keeper and a coaching shakeup (not Marco, but under him) are two priorities that would fix a lot and give us the better goals scored and goals conceded numbers that the underlying stats say we should have.         • Its less glaringly awful on the other side of things but we're definitely not good. See inside a recent article from Opta that indicates that we're among the worst at preventing shots (if not goals) following throw-ins and set-pieces. This I think is consistent with what we see.
