        • No wonder I couldn't recall an Arsenal cup tie! That disparity in being drawn against Spurs and not Arse, over more than a century, is mathematically quite freakish, isn't it?, yet surely not suspectable as contrived. So maybe other such patterns in cup draws in general -- ManU often being cited -- are innocently freakish too and it's nothing to do with (oo-er missus) warm balls.           • We should, roughly have played each club 8 to 9 times in cup competitions. So whilst Arsenal are an outlier (significantly so), Spurs are probably just on the upper edges of what you'd expect. For context, we've played 15 ties against United and Liverpool (a run of 9 games consecutively vs them in the league cup straddling the 80's and 90's). Chelsea, with 13 are the other side on the high side, i'm struggling to find many others in double figures. • I can understand us having a poor record against the bigger clubs like Man U, but why Burnley. They havnt been the biggest of clubs and yet era after era Fulham have been poor against them.     • I guess in the same way that Forest and Leicester may wonder why they have such poor records vs us? A lot of the Burnley stuff is driven a) by our recent, shoddy record at Turf Moor, but also a run of just 6 wins in 42 between the early 50's and 90's (26 defeats in that time). That feels like a really remarkable statistic since you would broadly expect that playing teams the most often (competitvely) means that you're more or less on the same level. • Sorry, my answer above to another question was badly worded - i was referring to Chelsea as the team we have 2nd lowest win rate against. (Burnley not great, but not even bottom 10. The lowest 5 are Arsenal (13%), Chelsea (14%), Man Utd (16%), Liverpool (17%), Spurs (19%). Spurs is a bit skewy because lots of draws, so points per game not so bad. lowest non 'big' club in the list is Portsmouth (25%) (NT) -- Same Old Story, Friday, October 18, 12:52:19pm (NoHost/90.241.124.131)
  • Ah OK! That makes sense, although to some extent it's still worth remarking that Spurs are in the top 5 most played and also the lowest win % (noting your point about draws).
