Subject: In fact, just dug out Dennis Turner's complete record, Stant did score on his debut (in a 1-0 home win over Preston), and netted three in his first four (with goals in 1-1 draws with Tranmere and Reading)...
In reply to: b+w g. 's message, "Nostalgia shared, though surprised to see he only scored 5 times for us. Slightly understandable to have him confused with Moody but the real comparison would be with a player even I was too young to see --- Frank (Bonzo) Newton, who scored 70 in 70 for us in the early 1930s. His career before (not after) football included in the British army in India, sailing round the world in a cargo boat, as a Sergeant in the Calcutta Police and as an engineer on the East India Railway. Champion boxer too." on Monday, October 14, 08:35:30am

  • Was one of those where i was always surprised he didn't stay for longer. We actually spent money on him (60k), and his next two clubs - at effectively the same level - saw him score 67 goals at a rate of 1 every 2. I can't imagine it being a case of the club he left us for (Mansfield) being able to offer him more than we could. I remember him being the best player on the pitch in an early season visit to Field Mill in 92/93 - scored both their goals, as we sneaked a 3-2 win (NT) -- Same Old Story, Monday, October 14, 02:24:32pm (NoHost/90.241.124.131)
  • Did seem very nomadic - played for around 12 league clubs? Maybe found it difficult to settle anywhere - life in the forces gave him itchy feet maybe? But that's pure speculation... (NT) -- p, Monday, October 14, 02:42:27pm (NoHost/90.213.242.75)
  • IIRC we sold him because we needed the money? Can’t have been a lot tho… (NT) -- woodman, Monday, October 14, 03:30:41pm (cpc158567-haye26-2-0-cust402.17-4.cable.virginm.net/86.15.153.147)
