  • That would be considered sexual abuse now. Apparently a woman can get pregnant within 3 weeks of giving birth, but the risk of miscarriage is quite high. It could be that they acquired children from other family members or people known to them. That wasn't unusual in days gone by.     • Infant mortality was much higher back in the day so families had high numbers of children in the knowledge that several would almost certainly not live to adulthood. 19 seems exceptional but I know one of my great grandmothers had 10. • Yep, 5 goals in 19 games according to Wikipedia, so not as prolific as I first thought! I think my memory must have been distorted by him getting off to a very good start! I'm thinking he scored on his debut and then maybe a couple of goals in the next two or three games, so was looking like a 'goal a game' striker at the very beginning! • Was one of those where i was always surprised he didn't stay for longer. We actually spent money on him (60k), and his next two clubs - at effectively the same level - saw him score 67 goals at a rate of 1 every 2. I can't imagine it being a case of the club he left us for (Mansfield) being able to offer him more than we could.
