Subject: If you are not watching Fulham. Who would you, do you, go and watch? And why?

Taking a theme discussed on FOF this week, and twisting it a little. As we are on a international break weekend we can entertain our alternative football indulgences a little.

For local football I have recently tried out Reading City FC (thanks to our own 'Red Kev'). Combined Counties League, nice little ground for that level, and as near to the River Thames as anyone who sits in the JH stand. Also, locally brewed beer and decent, affordable food.
Also Barnet FC (my home town team), especially if they are away at Maidenhead, Aldershot or Woking, near to where I live in Reading; all delightful, historic non league stadiums.Fairly decent crowds at those games. The Aldershot cowshed end is to be envied, if like me you like last century football grounds.

  - Nope. Football, for me, is an activity where having a vested interest in one of the teams is a core component of the enjoyment i get. I've tried a couple of times, and it just did nothing for me. - I agree in general and wouldn’t watch another league game but do enjoy going down the local non league club where you can have a beer on terraces, a decent toilet and engage with players, officials, management. 10 min walk home / the local helps too. Was Chairman of a Community owned step 4 and 5 club for a few years when I was permanently based in England. Watched a few of their games each year on international breaks and evenings but was really involved to sort out the finances and get new 4G pitch built and funded next to stadium. Most of players at that level will move clubs for and extra few quid a game. In its way as mercenary as full pro game. - Players will always gravitate to clubs that have better players (who earn more). It's not just about money. Better players bring more out of their team mates.
