Subject: here it is

So, here I am--mere days before this board is to be flooded with talk about The Machine Crusade--holding my brand new copy of The Butlerian Jihad, having waited until now because I was too cheap to buy the hardcover ... and ... I have mixed feelings.

No, I haven't read it yet. In fact, because of classes and other things, it may be weeks before I have a chance to read it. Nevertheless, here it is in front of me. I'm looking at the cover art right now. I wonder what it is, exactly, that that worm is trying to swallow? Then there are those two moons again--and either they are very close to the planet or the planet is very far from its sun. Of course, they wouldn't be that close to each other either. Oh well; artistic license is certainly allowed for this sort of thing.

(if you're bored yet, now's probably the time to hit your "back" button)

But then, for the important part: that which is contained within its many pages. I suppose I should expect similar style and quality to the House trilogy. But I don't know. Many have implied that they like this book best of all the prequels. Unfortunately, that has the opposite effect of what would be expected, because I have gotten a similar impression about House Corrino, which I thought was the worst of the prequels. I read one review that said the other prequels were good, but that BJ was much too predictable. The others seem to say pretty much the same stuff.

Perhaps I could go by my impression of the short story "Hunting Harkonnens". Well, in that case, I thought that the first half was the literary equivalent of cheap, soiled toilet paper; but, the second half was pretty interesting.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

So, why am I writing all of this about nothing? Well I wanted to; that's all. Whatever.
