maybe to locate the worm that was in the hold of the no-ship that went to an unknown destination. the worm had leto II's "pearl of awareness" and it would not be a far stretch to believe that there was still a place in D7 for the worm. if the atreides gene renders one prescient proof then perhaps the tleilaxu were searching for a way to nullify, or even reverse that effect.
