Subject: Wensicia in the mini is Older
In reply to: tvscks 's message, "On the BG and spice..." on 00:05:55 05/03/03 Sat

you are absolutely right about Wensicia being four years apart from Irulan and the fact that the ages of many other characters in the minis were way off when they cast. But Wensicia in the mini, was supposed to be much older than Irulan. So all this talk about Spice and Bene Gesserit training is really nonsense anyway.

The nature of the beast of adaptation is that what was in the book is moot. While a good adaptation tries to stay true to the core story of what it is adapting, certain things have to be changed for extenuating circumstances and logistics. In this way, the adaptation becomes a work of art in itself that's not necessarily strictly beholden to the source material.

This is how I feel about the Dune minis. I want to the stories to be very true to the books, but if certain minor details have to modified along the way, so be it, as long as the integrity of the story hasn't changed.

As far as Susan Sarandon being an awful actress in practically everything she's done, I (and many others, including those who give away Oscars) disagree. But I respect your opinion.

But you still did NOT rise to the challenge and give a thoughtful, intelligent, argument that has specific evidence to back up your claim. You simply stated that she sucks and is one-dimensional without extrapolating on what the hell that means. I am asking you to define why she is bad (if that's what you thought). If you don't want to, that's okay, it's just that your argument isn't very persuasive or compelling.
