Idaho, my intentions are not to piss anyone off. It is only a debate. Nothing more, nothing less. And I find it quite enjoyable.
And as for the space flight issue. You keep going back to the point that light sabers are not anymore far fetched than lasguns or shields. When have I ever disagreed? My argument was on space flight solely. Even Ender's game had relativistic effects. Card just came up with a theoretical way to communicate instantly. Come to think of it, every scifi writer I've read has dealt with the issue by employing it within their stories or finding theoretical ways to over come it(foldspace) except for Star Trek and Star Wars. I have read many books with empires based on slower than light travel and with relativistic effects. And are you saying that you know for fact that the Enterprise rips a hole so to say and goes into a differnt demention and then rips a hole again to come out every time it goes warp speed? Did you create Star Trek? I have never heard it put this way and I disagree. I have only had it explained as multiples of the speed of light. I find it hard to beleive that someone as intelligent as Herbert would leave something this nesassary out of early Dune. Or at least come up with a better way to do it than Brian or kevin did. I have proven my point. To myself at least if to no other. This is all that matters. Jihad was a fun story but I will never accept it as the way the Jihad took place. Selling books is one thing but, to throw physics out the door(especially for Dune) is anouther.
As to Wolverine, genetics will take care of the healing issues and there are already people today with metal bones. Will there ever be a person like Wolverine? Who knows. But like I said earlier, I am an optimist when it comes to the human potential. And a drug to awaken the other 80 to 90 percent of our brain that we don't use is also concievable to me. Wow, what could we do then?
