Subject: WVU game musing

This game could have and should have been a victory. Possibly would have been a season-changing one. Instead, it's more of the same in the end. McConnell played great for a first-year player. Last year Huggie Bear targeted Clark and took him out of the game and this year it was Saunders. WVU was ripe. In their prior game Huggie benched the starters for a long period because the weren't hustling. Some new starters last night but the lack of hustle persisted. It was there for the taking. Several areas the Dukes could have improved in (ie. free throw shooting) but the easiest road to victory would have been to keep Clark in the game. He is now in his fourth year of Courtney Wallace-like foolish fouling. Last night after an extended stint on the bench with four fouls he goes back into the game for the game-ending push and fouls out a minute and a half later. What could he have been thinking? And he graduated fron DU. No big inside presence hurt again. You can run mediocre teams off the court and win but good teams that can run and have a good inside game will not be beaten.

  - Kind of a shallow perspective, don't you think? Ignores some of the obvious benefits that BCS teams have with their, um, "enhanced training practices." That's the difference between the BCS teams and the rest. I mean, look at the size difference between DU and both WVU and Penn State and we could've won either game because we have talented kids, We just can't turn 'em into thoroughbreads the way other schools can.     - respect your opinion but this is kind of whiney. Richmond, Dayton and Xavier beat BCS schools....hell Oakland went to Tenn and whipped #7. I think its silly to make excuses some of which just are not accurate. You sound like a 2nd grader on this. I am neither complaining nor making excuses; it's fairly common knowledge that the BCS teams have the advantages to which I refer, While non-BCS teams occassionally succeed against them, go look at the percentages, They will support my argument.         fair enough...I did not mean to come accross as a name caller however those were my first thoughts. Non-BCS teams have the same access to enhancements and whatever you believe is to be the difference....I don't think this is a factor because these products are so available to ANYONE...not just BCS teams.         Greg, it usually works through the football trainers. That's the difference. Think about it. We have a couple guys who are solidly built (Saunders, Clark, Marhold). They don't weigh that much, and they have some spindly legs. WVU, just as an example, is loaded with some hefty guys who run the court with our guys. Not accusing WVU of anything; just saying.
