That's kind of what I feel too.
I had a problem with my step dd's mom when she was about 6, her Great grandma died and Jacqui was very close to her. But her mom wouldn't let her go to the funeral, because it might upset her. I guess I felt at 6, she should've had the chance to say "goodbye" at the funeral.

But now that I'm in this boat, I'm perplexed.
Live & learn I guess.
