An Open Rant About PP (long)

I am both disappointed and disgusted with PP these days...Need a place to rant about it. Bear with me! I kept thinking - were the "big wigs" completely ignorant about how the change would be recieved by the community? That stumped me. Now, I think they knew it would piss people off, but in the end decided to deal and stick with their original game plan. The new board was not designed for the community - a place to build relationships, sustain friendships (etc.) The change was implemented IMHO to encourage more revenue from dedicated members frequenting their sponsors and thus driving their probably ailing revenues. In the end, it shouldnt be surprising that the change was driven by the need for the almightly dollar.

I've been back to PP hoping to connect with other exiles...and usually the new board glitches out on me...When I click on a message, I read it, then hit the back button to go back to the Mail "list", all I see is HTML. Yesterday, I looked at it...and noticed www.prosepero.com repeated over and over again. While I am not an expert in HTML code by any means, I surmised that this was the company that provided the new interface. The company that replaced hypernews. So I went to visit prospero's site. The following caught my eye:

So, basically, what I am reading here is that the unviewable replies, is purposefully designed to get you more involved in the boards...and discourage lurking of course...which is important to me - because I like to keep up on whats going on even if I dont have time to post. I've been in Lurk mode with you guys a long time - but I am still in the know LOL...

Also I am guessing that by registering - the Prosepero can help PP find sponsors that best suit the needs of the community...thus the buck that is driving everything.

If Parents Place were so desperate for revenue, while needing a new interface - I think this subject could have been approached way more democratically. We all know that. I think we would have felt more sympathetic to PP's situation if we were asked to become part of the solution.

Anyway...I guess I am quite resentful of the fact that MY membership at PP is really about creating a potential customer. That makes me sick...especially when families like the Martinis and families on other boards I have met, need REAL financial support - need a community etc etc.

I am done my rant if you have stuck with me this long. I needed to get it out...and here seems a bit safer without Big Brother breathing down our neck
