**The queen weeps silently into Aria's shoulder. How could this have happened? How could Karn...love her? It is too confusing to think about, she said to herself. I must set things straight and go talk to Karn. She wipes her tears abruptly. She backs away from Aria, then hugs her as a grateful thank-you. She whispers into Aria's ear,

You know what I must do.

She gives Aria a slight kiss on the cheek as a sign of loyal friendship. She smiles bravely and turns toward Karn again. She walks to the duck pond and sits beside him, searching his face with curious eyes. She did not talk, but instead waited for him to speak if he wished. She took off her shoes and pantyhose and set them to the side. She hitches up her dress a few inches and places her feet in the calm, warm water. Oh what a feeling. She moves her feet around slightly to create ripples at the surface. Not violent ones, but calm, relaxing, carefree ripples. A smile fought to appear on her lips, but she knew this was not the time to smile at breaks in the water's surface. How childish. She glances back at Karn, concern knotting her beautiful, unsullied face.**
