I have a different view of how the show handled metaphors. Deftly throughout, would be my version.

At any rate, without going deeply into my interpretation of Normal Again, I will say that certainly part of the message of that episode is that this is yet another choice we all make. Are we in the Asylum, or are we the Slayer? Which one, really, is in need of curing?

That episode always makes me think of Anti-Oedipus, that great work of postmodernism by Deleuze and Guatarri, and the line "A schizophrenic out for a walk is a better model than a neurotic on an analysts couch." What none of us need any more of is to be normalized. That's not what our spirits crave, nor what will make the world a better place. Caring for each other, whether we're crazy or not, will do it.

So you're choice of which is real is a reflection on you. The choice to believe in the reality of the Asylum seems as justifiable as the alternative. But either tells us something about the person making the choice.
