But the idea of the vampire as sexual predator had been there all the time, or at least since the second season. No shifting of metaphor there. Unless you mean the fact that Spike actively becomes about sexuality. In which case I don't think you're correct about the nature of Spike in season 6, or what he does in Seeing Red. I don't think his attempted rape of Buffy has anything to do with his vampire nature. That's a confused man there. I'm not entirely sure, but I don't think we see him in vamp face in the bathroom. And the fact that you say that actualsexual predators isnt part of being a vamp might be the whole point. Thats something associated with humanity, and Spike is stuck in the hinterland.

I don't think that scene is about redefining vampires so much as Spike.

But I don't think that the vampire could be read as explicitly one metaphor throughout the show, or even consistently throughout seasons.
