First, let me say that the feedback is great and your thoughts interesting... and yes the trio seemed more a product of writers delirium than writers wisdom.

Second I also believe there were some exceptional single episodes here and there. Many of the ones you sighted I would agree with. Others I would suggest that you randomly choose any episode from seasons 1-5 then watch anything from season 7 (except Conversations with Dead People if thats the one with Spike hanging on the cross - sorry I don't have the DVD boxset - like the third episode) and see how they compare. Although the feeling in the writing may be there the width and breath are monocolored. Season 7 is just more like a soap opera. "Chosen" is good - agreed - but even that - even with all the great EFX - to me it just didn't quite measure to seasons 1-5 but I was glad to see Buffmeister live to fight another day - uh maybe fight.

No truer words have ever been spoken:

"Of course, Caleb could have been made an interesting, multi-dimensional character, like the Mayor was. I think the failure to write Caleb as a full human, and Warren as well, is a large part of why seasons 6& 7 feel schizophrenic."

and oh yeah how could I forget:

"And finally, I don't think the trio was very funny."

Regarding the Buffy religious symbolism I can certainly see your point of view and I too believe it is part of the arc that Mr. Whedon wished to, if only in a reserved fashion, impart upon the viewer.
