I think the idea of a "making fun" is just fine, after all the gloppy "Twilight" and even "Vampire Diaries." Admittedly, Depp does "romantic" very well in "Don Juan De Marco," and doing a serious take would probably require some tragedy for his obsession versus his addiction/vampirism. My hope remains with Angel's "promise" in actual transfiguration to his DESIRE of "mortal" and Buffy for "normal." (Versus the heroic trope of "We don't belong to ourselves; we belong to the world." Of juveniles and melodramatic tragedy. Just "grow up" already!)

The serious take on vampires has been given plenty of "air" time; I happen to adore the endlessly long death scene in "Fright Night"--of course, the original. Colin Farrell just seemed thugish or embarrassed in his version.

Be well!
