Jason Morgan stepped out of his black Mustang convertible and scanned the park for his partner. He saw a hot dog vendor, a guy obviously making a drug deal and two young girls at the swings. No, not two girls, a girl and a woman. The girl looked about six and her companion looked about twenty or so. It would have been impossible to think they weren't related, they both had such similar features. Long dark hair, oval faces and small frames. 'Sisters probably.' He thought. "Mommy look at me!" He heard the little girl say as she pumped her little legs furiously so as to get higher in the air. He smiled when he heard the girl's mother laugh. He could tell she had a beautiful voice. Without meaning to, he moved closer to the pair. As soon as he got closer, the woman turned and looked at him. His breath caught in his throat. Her dark eyes narrowed, not in anger but in suspicion. The look made him hastily try to explian his presence.

Jason: "Hello. My name's Jason. I..I saw you and your daughter and she was just so cute I couldn't help but try to introduce myself."

Woman: "You're introducing yourself to get to know my daughter better?"

Jason: "Honestly, I was hoping to get to know you better."

Woman: "How do you know I don't have a husband or boyfriend who wouldn't like you over here?"

Jason: "If you did, he wouldn't be a very good one to not be here with you and your little girl." (looks to the girl) "How old are you?"

Girl: "I'm five an a half."

Jason smiled but it faltered when he saw the guarded expression in the child's eyes. It was the same one that her mother had. A look of pain and an effort to shield one's self against it. No one should look that way, least of all a child.

Jason: "I know you have no reason to trust me, but could you please tell me your names?"

Woman: "I'm Robin and this is Avriel."

Jason(smiles): "It's a pleasure to meet you both. I know it must seem rather forward of me, but do you think we could have some coffee sometime?"

Robin hesitated, looking as if she were going to refuse.

Jason(quickly): "I understand if you don't want to, but if you do, here's my number. You give me a call and let me know. Ok?"

He handed her the slip of paper, smiled at them and walked away with a feeling of anxiety. Would she call him? Did she think he was some psycho pervert out to get her and her daughter? Oh God, he probably made a complete fool of himself.

Robin: "Jason?"

He turned.

Robin: "How about tomorrow morning? At Murphy's over on tenth?"

Jason(smiles): "Yeah, bring Avriel, I'll buy breakfast."

Her face fell.

Jason: "Or not. Look Robin, I don't expect anything from you. I just want to get to know you and your daughter. I'd like to be friends."

Robin: "Ok."

With that, Robin took Avriel and they walked from the park leaving Jason feeling confused, among other things.
He turned back to his car and saw Sonny walking towards him. Oh well, time for business.

Part 2 NC -17

Robin stood by the window of her apartment, looking out over the city. The buildings were only slightly illuminated by the lights flickering inside and the streets below were completely shrouded in darkness. Robin thought that this scene went well with her state of mind if not her life. There were things, like Avriel, that stood high above the darkness and gloom that invaded every pore of her body. And yet at times even these were not enough to keep her from tumbling into the blackness, wishing that something would come and take her away. But those moments only lasted for a little while before, like the light in the windows, her Avriel would shine through the pain and give her the same kind of comfort, that there was someone out there, someone that wasn't looking to hurt her. Robin's mind wnadered slightly from these thoughts as she replayed her time in the park with Jason. There was something about him, more than the fact that he would approach a total stranger and their daughter to get to know them better, but there was also a kindness in his eyes that made her wonder if maybe, he too might be something she could count on. Suddenly Robin's mind took her to a night similar to this, with musing almost identical.

*flashback*

Robin had been standing by the window of the apartment she had shared with Dash, thinking about the time they had spent together over the last eight months. They were wonderful and Dash was so kind to her. Her thoguhts were interrupted as Dash came stumbling into the apartment. He reeked of alcohol and weed. Before Robin could even comprehend his presence, she was on the ground with a bloody lip and a furious Dash standing above her.

Robin: "Dash, what the fuck was that for?"

Dash picked her up roughly and slammed her against the wall.

Dash: "I just want to make a few things straight to you. You're mine. That means you come when I call, you fuck me whenever, where ever and for however long I tell you and you never ever even look at another man. Understand?"

Dash increased his grip painfully until Robin nodded her head in submission. Satisfied with that his lips came crashing down on hers and he began to move them towards his bedroom. Robin began to struggle, pushing at his chest and dragging her feet, but she was no match for him and he soon had her pinned to the mattress. Still she fought as he moved his hands from her shoulders, down to her chest and grabbed her breasts painfully. She squirmed and pounded on his back as he tore her shirt to shreds to get it off her and threw it to the floor. The rest of her clothes soon followed as did his. And as his hardness pressed against her thigh she fought harder than ever, yet even as she fought, she was too terrified to scream out loud. Her mind, however, was not afraid as it wailed in agony as he thrust and burst through her barrier, parting her from her innocence in more ways than one. As Dash moved roughly inside of her, her eyes squeezed shut from the pain. Soon Dash reached his climax and climbed off her, shoving her towards the closet for clean sheets as he went to wash the blood off his stomach. Blood trickled down her legs as she stripped the bed of the blood and sweat-soaked sheets and tears of shame coursed down her cheeks as she remade the bed that would soon, if it had not already, become as hated as a toture chamber for a prisoner of war.

Robin(whispers sobbingly): "I'm only fourteen. Oh God, how could he?"

More choked whispers and prayers to a God she wasn't sure hadn't abandoned her years ago came as she went back to her room and tried to clean herself up. The job was unsuccessful until she heard Dash head to his room and collapse on the bed. Then she was able to shower and wash away as much of this night as possible.

*end flashback*

Three months later she went to the clinic down the block and found herself facing another problem. She was pregnant. But amazingly, that had turned out to be the best thing to ever happen to her. She gave birth to her little Avriel and even though she hated Dash, she considered her daughter a gift from him. As she stood by the window she fingered a scar on her arm. Another of Dash's "unexpected gifts" to her. She shook her head and reminded herself fiercely that if experience had taught her anything, it was that no one was looking out for you, but you. They only wanted what they could get from you and when they got it, you were no more than used goods. So even though Jason seemed nice, she knew he had to be like all the others. Why should she of all people get anyone better? And even if he wouldn't expect that from her, there was no way he would look at her with the same kindness if he found out about the life she had led, still led to this day. The life that even now, she realized, was going to take her from her child and down the block to the stripjoint where she worked. There was just no way, this would be different. Just no way.
