Subject: The House of Cards Has Fallen Chap:1-3

Setting: Courtroom

Tony Jones has been on trial for several weeks for the kidnapping of Michael Morgan.(A/N I think it's stupid, but if I recall he wasn't charged for taking Robin hostage.) Though there have been many negative and positive testimonies regarding Dr. Jones's sanity and actions, the most damning came from another of Tony's vicitms, Robin Scorpio. The judge has sentenced Tony to community service and while the town reacts Robin goes to congratulate Tony on not being sent to prison.

Robin: "Tony, I just wanted to tell you that I'm happy you are not going to jail. But I came over to also ask for your promise that you will not attempt to take Michael from his family again."

Tony: "I can't do that Robin. He would be better off with me. And-"

Tony trails off as he sees Carly push Det. Marcus Taggert aside and grab his gun raising it in front of her. He thinks for a moment that she is going to shoot him but then quickly realizes she is aiming at Robin.

Tony: "Robin look out!"

Tony and Dara both try to get Robin out of the way, but as the world begins to move as though in slow motion they are too late as Carly screams, "Bitch! You'll pay!" and fires the gun straight at Robin's heart. But the bullet misses its target as Jason tackles Carly from behind and forces her aim more to the right. Robin falls to the ground and lays there. The whole courtroom is momentarily stunned and then all hell breaks loose. People are rushing over to Robin to try to help her. Mac makes it there first and cradles her head in his hands.

Mac(sobbing): "Hang on Luv. You'll be ok."

Alan(coming forward): "Mac, an ambulance is on its way but Monica and I have to check the wound."

Mac steps back into Felicia and they hold one another, afraid that this moment will be the last one they will spend with the woman they have both grown to consider a daughter. Mac turns at a sound and sees Taggert and Bobbie trying to pull Jason off of an hysterical Carly. He has her pinned to the wall, his face a mottled shade of red and his hands are at her throat. Mac pulls away from Felicia and walks over there. Reaching Jason he grabs one arm while Taggert grabs the other and they both pull him off and the Bailiff comes over with handcuffs for Carly.

Mac(holding Jason back): "Taggert get Carly out of here. Read her her rights and get her out of my sight." Taggert cuffs Carly and leads her to the hallway. "Jason, hold still. Listen to me. Robin wouldn't want you going to jail over this, she'd want you to go home and take care of Michael."

Mac's whole mouth tastes bitter as he says this but he relaxes his grip as he feels Jason slump and sees him nod his head.

Jason(walking to Robin): "I'll calm down, but I can't go home. I'm going with her to the hospital. I have to be there when she wakes up. Even if she doesn't know I'm there."

Jason looks down at the woman he loves more than anything and feels his heart constrict at the sight of Monica and Alan covered in Robin's blood and he knows if she finds out about this she will fear for the safety of everyone there. But no one is thinking of the HIV, they're thinking of saving the life of someone everyone in that courtroom loves dearly. He looks at her again and sees her blouse is open and Monica ha dbegun CPR, but he doesn't register this as he lets his mind believe that any moment Robin will wake up and look around blushing to see everyone standing around her can see her bra. She was so modest that would probably make her not leave her room for a month. Jason continues with that scenario, putting himself in as well, staying with her the whole time with no one to bother them and them falling asleep together and suddenly his world is black.

Everyone in the crowd is stunned for the third time in less than two hours. first Tony Jones is let off without jail time, then Carly Roberts shoots Robin Scorpio in open court and now Jason Morgan, Port Charles' own crime lord has fainted dead away.

Chap:2

Mac Scorpio paced around the waiting room nervously. It had been seven hours since his little girl had gone in to surgery, where she was right now fighting for her life. His little girl that Robert had entrusted to his care and he'd blown that trust countless times by not protecting her the way he should have. That bitch Carly was going to have hell to pay when he got his hands on her. That thought was the only thing keeping him from going crazy right now. Mac looked around the room at the other people sitting there. Sonny, Brenda, Jason, Felicia, Nikolas, Katherine, AJ, Lila and strangely, Reginald. Mac shook his head, no not strangely, Reggie had always liked Robin. Everyone looked up as they heard the elevator stop at their floor. Out walked Luke and Laura with Lucky in tow. Their eyes were all bloodshot and filled with fear. Luke walked over to Mac and pulled him into a bear hug.

Luke: "Bubba, I know we've never gotten along, but you know that I love that little girl like my own and I want you to know that if I can do anything to help get that cuckoo bird of a niece of mine off the streets and behind bars forever I will."

Mac: "Thanks Luke. I may take you up on that." He looks over at a despondent Jason and Sonny. "That is if I can keep the Gotti twins from getting to her first."

Lucky(bitterly): "Maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing."

Laura: "Lucky! She's your cousin."

Lucky: "And Robin is like a sister to me. I want Carly to pay for this."

No one had noticed Lucy and Kevin making their way over to the group until Lucy flung her arms around Felicia and began sobbing heavily into her shoulder.

Lucy: "Oh Felicia, Doc and I came as soon as we heard. Is it true that Carly shot Robin in open court?"

Katherine(bitingly): "No Lucy, it isn't true. We're all sitting here trying to decide what color to paint the waiting room walls. Yes it's true you twit."

Katherine turned from Lucy and walked over to the end of the corridor. Lucy pulled away from Felicia and walked over there.

Reginald: "Don't they think they could save this fight for when Robin's out of the hospital? Can't they have even a little respect?"

But no one in the room heard what Lucy said to Katherine.

Lucy: "I know you're upset Kathy. We all are. We all love Robin so much. I don't want to fight with you and I realize that may be the only way that we can communicate with each other, but don't you think we can curb it for at least Mac's sake. He doesn't need to be refereeing us right now."

Katherine started at Lucy's overture of civility. She thinks back on all the times she's seen Robin around Carly and Jason, all the times Carly would taunt Robin about her HIV, about not being with Jason and about having the child Robin probably never would, and through all that Robin still managed to act with decorum and class. If Robin could face trash like Carly with dignity and not cause a scene, all for a man who had betrayed her, Katherine could certainly get along with Lucy for the sake of someone who had been nothing but kind and decent towards her.

Katherine: "You're right Lucy. I think we can at least curb it until Robin is all right." Notices Lucy tearing up. "She will be all right. She will be. Ask those little spirits you talk to, they'll tell you."

Lucy wipes her eyes and nods holding out her hand to Katherine. Katherine takes it and they shake on their agreement. As they turn to make their way back to the group they see Kevin, Mac, Brenda, Felicia, Luke and Laura all staring at them in disbelief.

Mac: "I knew Robin touched a lot of people's lives, but I didn't think even she could make that happen."

Felicia smiles briefly and then sits down between Sonny and Jason. She takes Jason's hand in hers.

Felicia: "She loves you so much Jason. She'll be all right."

Jason(flatly): "I want to believe that Felicia, I really do, but I saw her lying there with all that blood and I have this feeling-"

Felicia: "Feeling about what?"

Jason: "That something bad, well worse, is going to happen."

Just as Jason finished saying that, Alan came out of the operating room. His scrubs were covered in blood and he walked over to those gathered.

Alan: "We've managed to stop the internal bleeding and patch up a small laceration to the aortic valve of her heart , however, there was extensive damage done to her lung. I had to perform surgery to try to repair it. Her heart rate dropped dangerously several times and the oxygen flow to her brain was stifled for at least two minutes. There may be some brain damage due to this. The next 48 hours will be critical. We will be monitoring her brain patterns throughout that period. Mac, we're wheeling her to a room in ICU, as you know only family members are allowed to see her there. Hopefully in a week or so we can move her to a private room until then just you."

Stefan had walked up during Alan's speech and suddenly a fearful look came over his normally stony features.

Stefan: "Alan what type of anesthetics did you use for Robin Scorpio?"

Alan: "Ethrane, why?"

Stefan: "Damn it! I have just been informed that our last supply of Ethrane was tainted. A similar supply was sent to Mercy General a month ago and it increased the risk of seizures and comas amongst their patients. Especially among those who have suffered a lack of oxygen to the brain."

Just at that moment Alan was paged with a code blue to the operating room. He ran back in and found Robin convulsing on the gurney, her body arching up towards the ceiling in sickening jerks all the while twitching left and right causing the stitches in her chest to tear. Alan rushed over and placed his hands on her shoulders to restrain her.

Alan: "Bobbie get me 30cc's of Keppra now!"

Bobbie ran to retrieve the anti-epilepsy drug hoping that once introduced to her system it would stop the seizures as well as prevent further ones. Bobbie took the vial, inserted a syringe and pulled out the 30cc's and then shot it into the IV in Robin's arm. A few seconds later Robin was laying still once more on the gurney. Blood spilled from her newly opened wound and Alan shouted orders for them to reclose it. Working tirelessly they successfully restitched the wound, after making sure no other damage was done, and then Alan called up to Radiology for an immediate CATScan to be performed to assess the damage done by the anesthesia. It didn't take long for the results to come back and Alan regretted having to give Mac this on top of everything else. Robin had slipped into a coma and there was a great deal of devastation done to the frontal lobe of her brain. Not as extensive as Jason's, but there was no doubt that this damage would be permanant and there was a definite, almost positive chance of her having sustained memory loss. How much, well that was anyone's guess.

Chap:3

Setting: Port Charles Jail

Carly Roberts sat in the corner of her damp smelling cell wishing she were any place but here. Jason. Jason was all she could think about. Jason and that bitch who was trying to ruin her life. Trying to use her pitiful HIV status to make Jason hers forever. Well she'd showed her, Jason was Carly's not Robin's. He loved her, that scene in the courtroom was for everyone else's benefit. He would never have really hurt her. Occasionally thoughts of Michael would flit across her mind but would then be replaced with plans for her and Jason's wedding. It would be beautiful, just the two of them and then the honeymoon. Oh God how incredible that would be. As she was designing the interior to their new home she heard a noise that made her look up. Standing in front of her was Marcus Taggert.

Taggert(seething): "I should have let Morgan break your neck."

Carly: "Jason would never have hurt me. He loves me."

Taggert: "Oh yeah? Then why is he at the hospital choking on his every breath and not here with you?"

Carly: "He doesn't want the whole town asking questions about us. Besides I guess he feels a loyalty to her for some reason and wants to be there to say goodbye."

Taggert: "So you figure she's dead huh?"

Carly(indifferent): "Dead or dying. But then again, the dying part was always true."

Taggert lunged at her through the bars when a voice behind him stopped him.

Voice: "Taggert don't. I know you're angry, we all are. Robin Scorpio did not deserve this and I will make sure Ms. Roberts here goes to jail for a very long time."

Taggert(turns): "Dara, it's more than that. Look at this monster. She doesn't even care. All she can think about is Morgan and how he supposedly loves her.

Dara: "I know and it's her lack of remorse that will insure a conviction."

Carly: "Jason will never let me go to jail. He won't, he loves me and wants me and him and Michael to be a family."

Dara: "I don't think so Ms. Roberts, I've just come from the hospital. He and AJ just got finished with custody agreements, that is after he admitted that AJ is Michael's father. They'll share custody of Michael and you will be kept very far away from him, for the rest of his life hopefully."

With that Dara turned and left the holding area. Taggert moved to follow her but stopped and sneered at Carly.

Taggert: "You've lost everything. Morgan finally did right by somebody and I guess in a way we all have you to thank for it. Goodbye Carly, hope the roaches make suitable enough friends for you."

Taggert then marched his way out to the lobby of the precinct where Dara was waiting.

Taggert(worried): "There's something else isn't there?"

Dara: "The supply of Ethrane sent to General Hospital was tainted. It sen Robin into a seizure and the doctors say there is extensive brain damage. She's in a coma right now. Mac is beside himself with worry, I don't know how he'll make it if she's not all right."

Taggert: "Do they think the Ethrane was tampered with?"

Dara: "I don't think anyone has actually tested it for that. I'll get the supply sent down to the lab for analysis, if it was tampered with I don't want anyone else to have to pay for it."

Dara went to the phone and called GH asking to speak to Stefan.

Stefan: "Stefan Cassadine."

Dara: "Mr. Cassadine, it's Dara Jensen. I need the supply of Ethrane to be ready for transport to our labs immediately."

Stefan: "Why?"

Dara: "I want to know if it's been tampered with and if so, for what reason."

Stefan: "I assume you have heard about Ms. Scorpio's ordeal."

Dara: "Yes. It's a shame and should never have happened."

Stefan: "For once you and I are in agreement."

Dara: "I wasn't aware you and Ms. Scorpio were well acquainted."

Stefan: "My nephew cares a great deal for her and Katherine considers her a dear friend. I too have encountered a side of her that has made me have a great deal of respect for her. That is not an easy task. If there is nothing further Ms. Jensen, I will ready the shipment."

Dara: "Nothing else. Thank you Mr. Cassadine. Goodbye."

Stefan: "Not at all. Goodbye Ms. Jensen."

Dara hung up the phone and left the station.

Setting: General Hospital Interns Room

Alan Quartermaine walked into the room and looked around. His eyes began to pool with tears. This was a room he had come to accept he would never see his son in, but now a woman he considered to be a daughter would never set foot here either. He moved to sit on one of the beds and laid his head in his hands. Soft sobs escaped his throat and his body shook with his normally repressed grief. He cried for his son and he cried for Robin. Both wonderful people who were not made for this world. Or maybe they were and it was the rest of us who are meant for something different. It was too hard to say. Alan got up to leave when Karen Wexler walked in, her own face streaked with tears.

Alan: "Karen are you all right?"

Karen: "What the hell happened today? Why is Robin lying in a coma with damage to her brain. Why is it that she may never remember her life?"

Alan: "The anesthesia that was used was tainted. It caused her to seize and then sent her into a coma."

Karen: "Well is it going to be tested?"

Alan: "Tested? What for?"

Karen: "It could have been tampered with."

Alan: "But by whom?"

Karen was about to answer him when Chris Ramsey walked in.

Chris: "Karen, I heard about Robin Scoprio, I know she's a friend of yours. I'm sorry."

Karen: "Thank you, but I must admit I'm surprised you of all people would offer condolences."

Chris: "Robin has come to the hospital library and the lab a few times and asked questions on the research. She's very intelligent and I think it's a shame we may never get to work with her. I always got the impression that she would do great things in the field of research."

Karen: "Would you be willing to help me test the Ethrane that was used? To see if it has been tampered with?"

Chris: "Absolutely. I'll do anything I can to help. and maybe we can find a way to fix the damage done. Or it might at least give us an idea of who did this."

Karen: "Thank you."

Alan: "Yes, thank you Dr. Ramsey. I'll go get a sample for your tests."

Alan turned and left the room, his heart a little lighter. But only a little. He remembered the look of stark terror on Mac's face as he explained the damage done. And never in his life would he forget the anguish that ripped it's way past Jason's normally hard exterior and formed into a cry that made Alan's blood run cold. They'd had to sedate him and taken him to a room to lie down.After that AJ had found out Michael was his son and Jason had begged AJ not to blame Robin even though she knew. He said she'd begged him to tell the truth and he'd basically bullied her into keeping the secret. Surprisingly they worked out an agreement for custody and AJ had offered his support to his brother. And this wasn't the only amazing thing to transpire. Everyone who had heard was shaken to the core. Edward had come and meekly offered his support to Mac and Alan had even overheard him in the chapel saying a prayer on her behalf. Ned called Lois in Bensonhurst and told her what happened and Lois said she'd be out on the next flight. Jax and Sonny had sat in the same room for hours and not fought. It was obvious how much they both loved Robin. She was more than an extension of Brenda or a constant reminder of Stone. She was their family. Alan could only hope that the tests were wrong or that Robin would eventually make a full recovery. He wasn't sure what the outcome would be if things turned out any different.

Setting: Cabin on the outskirts of town

A man paces nervously about his quarters. He'd heard the news on Robin Scorpio and he was terribly worried. That was never supposed to happen. He cared about Robin, he'd saved her life once and she had trusted him once upon a time. He looked down at the photograph in his hand.

Man: "Robin, you were the only one besides Felicia who cared."

The man looked into the mirror across from his bed and a feeling of dread came over him. This wasn't supposed to happen. He'd come to care about Robin as he was persuing Felicia even though everyone thought he was incapable of it. Well, he'd saved Robin Scorpio once and now Dr. Ryan Chamberlain vowed to do so again.
