Strangely enough, I know of three other people who all had sudden issues with their computers in the same week I did. I don't know the details, but they all crashed big time. Not sure whether they got back up and running or not, or how they did.

I had to run the restore to get it working again, and now it has two versions of XP, as well as still warning me of hard drive failure. *rolls eyes* First thing I did was virus scan it, but it came up clean, so I'm tentatively attributing this to the power surge that took out my monitor a while back. Can't reload any programs, because they were all registered. It's basically only good for internet now - haven't even got Word.

Going to get a new one, but not in the foreseeable future.
