Dear Rebecca,

I just graduated high school this past June and a lot of people there were not receptive of a poety club either. BUT the Teen Advisory Board/Teen Volunteers at our public library, were. We have a poetry reading once a month and invite a semi-prominent poet from the area to participate in our open mic session. (Normally the person is close in age to high school seniors just because it makes the young adults feel less nervous and intimidated.) The Library offers *cheap* refreshments and gives small prises to those who get up and read. Perhaps you don't have that kind of time or resouce because after all, it is high school and it can be a drag. But call your local library and see if they would be interested in advertising and holding one or two for you. If you have morning announcements at your high school, ask that the Poetry Club be added regularly and write your information in a way that grabs the attention of your target audience. And by the way, Football Players, are nothin but little boys with lots of padding. Don't let the twirps stop you from trying. You have so much maturity. I wish there was someone like you at my high school. I was always hangin out with the poets, goths and drama people. You go gurl! And goood luck! Sincerely, Erica
