The reason I envisage some season ticket holders objecting to weekend pass holders being allowed in "their" queue, boils down to why they buy season tickets in the first place: The average number of Proms attended by season ticket holders will be substantially below the forty odd concerts required to "break even", but many choose this option to guarantee entry, and are prepared to pay a bit extra per concert in return for a better position in the arena/gallery - a loyalty bonus if you like. Weekend pass holders will benefit on cost grounds already, and will be seen to be scoring a double whammy if they benefit from the shorter season queue as well.

However, I would assume that the number of weekend passes made available, is limited, and based on last year's attendance figures by season ticket holders at weekend proms, in effect topping up the season queue rather than eating too much into the day ticket quota. Therefore, I am not personally over-concerned, so long as I know the situation and can plan my weekend arrival time accordingly.

I agree with concerns about Mahler 8 - I can see a lot of people being turned away from this one. However, I am not sure how many of the weekend pass holder's will be relatives etc. Given that passes were more or less sold out before general booking opened, I would expect a fair percentage of these to be from regular "Day Prommers" and infrequently-attending former season ticket holders, for whom the new pass is ideally suited, and who put in their application before 20th May. Many relatives, unfamiliar with the system may not have realised the need to book tickets so early and will have to rely on the day queue. Hopefully, they (well at least the well behaved ones ;-))will have observed the advice on the BBC forum and arrive very early!
