Before I succumbed to the stranglehold of work and family I was a regular season-ticket buyer, and if I didn't have chronic sciatica to contend with as well now, I would have found the new weekend season a very attractive option. It doesn't look as if a huge number of the weekend seasons have been made available - unless there have been, there wouldn't seem to be much reason for veteran (I use the word in its widest sense!) full season ticket holders to fret about having to share the same queue. In any case, isn't the remedy in the full season holders' hands? If you *really* want a place in the front few rows, you have to be prepared to sit on the pavement / stairs / balustrades (or whereever) for just that bit longer. OK it may be hours longer, in the case of a popular prom with world-famous artists, but if you are genuinely prepared to put the time in, you will get a decent spot in the hall.
The specific problem this year I can see will be on the Mahler 8 night - go and look at the toys being thrown out of the pram over on the BBC's website by people who didn't get tickets to see their little darlings perform. The Hall and the BBC really need to make it clear well in advance that the only way you will get in the hall for this one is to come and queue up good and early, ie about breakfast time. (The infantile behaviour of the youth orchestras' friends in the Arena cured me several years agao from the desire to attend their Proms, whoever else was appearing ...)
