I am sorry that my attempt at humourous irony missed. I was just trying to emphasise the difficulty of finding a suitable date during the Season. Because of the increase in afternoon concerts during the weekend it has not been possible to find suitable slots for rehearsals and concert. I can't complain about the extra concerts and, anyway, this question would have arisen even more forcibly next year when our habitual venue is glassed in to become a bar. (And please don't suggest the Little Albert, I have a rooted objection to spending so many hours preparing for an event which will be rained off).

I am now negotiating for the use of premises local to RAH for rehearsals and concert over two consecutive weekends in late September and October. Check with the new web site for updates: http://www.prommersoc.org.uk

The programme is working out. Autumn from Haydn's Seasons, of course, and two Jubilee related pieces to begin and end. A choral fantasy in praise of Four Great Queens (written in the styles of poets and composers of the time of Elizabeth I, Anne, Victoria and Elizabeth II) is being orchestrated for us after its first performance in a village in the Midlands. The final piece has its own Golden Jubilee next June - Vaughan Williams' Setting of The Old Hundredth.

One other piece must remain a secret for a little while longer, but I hope it will mark the first occasion on which the Prommers' Prom was given in a venue with a piano.

There will be no entrance charge but a collection will be taken for the same charities (after expenses) we work for during the Season - many years of experience in this game has taught me that people will dig deeper into their pockets for a collection after a concert than they will for tickets before it, even though it all goes to the same purpose.

There should also be two or three other occasions to enjoy our performances before the next Proms Season, but at least on of these involves some travelling.
