Subject: Help please: How long to queue for first night?

Avid readers of this forum will know that I couldn't get a ticket for the first night. *:-(

So, I'm planning to stand. I've stood many a time, but not on the first night. Having stood for things like Verdi's Requiem (Solti's impromptu memorial concert) and Rattle's VPO Mahler 2 I'm aware that big event=big queues.

I can't get to the RAH that early (4pm is about the limit) so does anyone have a view on whether this will get me a passable spot (or even any spot)? Or should I just turn up later in the expectation of once again experiencing the dubious pleasure of the musical equivalent of looking down the wrong end of a telescope (i.e. going in the gallery). Or should I not bother? Hmmm. Dilemmas. Life's just too complex for a simpleton like me....

If anyone's got a stalls ticket going spare I'll give you 40 quid for it..... As long as you're not one of those dodgy shady looking touts who gets their tickets from who knows where....

Blast having to work for a living and not being able to hang around in queues all day.....
