Style is very much a matter of personal taste. One person's wonderfully powerful and committed is another person's excessively loud and over-the-top. For example, in many ways I consider that last description to be very nearly an oxymoron, but there are plenty who would disagree. As to all continuing to soak up the atmos etc., I'll second that.
