For the 2nd consecutive year, Megan Griffith, Columbia's WBB Head Coach, has been chosen Ivy League's WBB Coach of the Year.

Now let's see if her team can gain entry to NCAA's National WBB Tournament.

Congratulations to Ms Griffith. All I care about is the (hopeful) ILT rematch. Still, I’ll stick with Carla any day.

The Lions had better not look past the opening game, lest we incur a repeat of last season’s early exit. As far as a rematch, my guess is that Princeton will be a slight favorite. Hsu will need to bring her A game to be sure, and demonstrate that she deserved her POY title. Chen will be motivated to show otherwise. As far as the two coaches, the stakes are higher for Meg because she will need a win to get a bid.

I've gotten to know Megan a bit since she came back to Columbia as the head coach, and I'll say this: She's the complete package. Period.

My understanding is that it takes less effort to maintain the speed of a spinning wheel than to get a wheel to start spinning from 0 rpm, and then to get it spinning up to speed. Meaning to take absolutely nothing away from the Tigers' superb coach, a difference between what she's done vs. what Megan's accomplished is that the Tigers are the first case, i.e., a franchise that was already running at an admirably high clip, whereas Megan is the second case, i.e., a franchise that she had to crank up to speed from a lower starting point. IMHO, that's a material difference very much worth noting when choosing a COY.

I like this post. I do think COY is based on the that year, however, not anything prior, but I could be wrong, and who knows why the voters vote as they do. Megan has done a great job this year.

Correct that Carla is a superb coach and that Megan has done a great job overall and I would add is on an upward spiral; we'll see where that goes this year and in the near future. The better analogy for Megan, however, IMO -- at THIS moment -- is Courtney. Courtney took over a down program, eventually won 4 straight titles and had difficulty winning an NCAA game. She once told me in her office, "You know, we are a top 50 program." Given what she took over, this was a very worthy achievement. Carla, however, has had her team flirting with the Top 25. I don't consider Meghan's achievement to date on a par with Carla, although she may well get there very soon.

In your wheel analogy, Carla has not merely kept it spinning, she has taken Princeton Women's Basketball beyond Courtney's foundation, win or lose this weekend. I would add that there are probably fans at all of our schools who would not quite accept that maintaining the wheel speed is not as impressive as building up a down program: both achievements might be equally impressive. Over the years there have been quite a few well spinning wheels in quite a few of our sports that wound up deflated and in a ditch after a new coach came in.

BTW, I have always had a "soft" spot for Megan even in her edgier moments. One time while watching Courtney practice her team, I noticed a young lady lugging a chair from across court in my direction. To my surprise, she plopped it down in front of me.

Finally, I have seen P play 5 times in person (and several on the internet). If Columbia plays at 90% of its ability, it will again beat the team I saw in those 5 games, assuming we get past a good Penn team which has several threats. We will need, this weekend, to step it up to the higher level we have sometimes played at to get to number 25. Three of the women's teams are hungry for a taste of the NCAAs. The P women are hungry to get back and will need to play hungry, to borrow a cliche. Cheers.

Our Woman's Basketball Coach, Megan Griffith, is headed to the Columbia Sports Hall of Fame. I am not sure about the Men's Basketball Coach, Jim Engles

I am hoping for a tight, exciting, one possession game that Tigers win after which both Teams get NCAA bids in different brackets. Very unlikely, I realize. I am pulling for Megan and Columbia. But I’m still a Tiger 🐅🐅🐅.
